Rainbows End

Hi all!

So over the weekend I went to a place called Rainbows End. Now I don’t know about you, but when I heard the name Rainbows End, I didn’t know what to expect besides maybe a pot of gold, but it wasn’t literally a pot of gold. Rainbows End is an amusement park which to me is a pot of gold in itself, because recently I really started loving scary/thrilling rides and roller coasters, which if you would have known me two years ago you wouldn’t believe me for even a second when I say that.

Where is Rainbows End you might be wondering. Well it’s 23 kilometers from the Auckland CBD, in Manukau, South Auckland. To go in, there are different passes that you can buy that allows you to access different areas. Here is a link to the different passes and their prices: https://rainbowsend.co.nz/tickets/buy-tickets-online

Ok so what does Rainbows End have to offer? Obviously it’s not nearly as big as Disneyland, but it’s still a great place to spend the day. So there are three sections to Rainbows End:

  • Rainbow Playland
  • Kidz Kingdom
  • The main area

Rainbow Playland:

I didn’t spend too much time in this area because it’s sort of just like any arcade place, just with a few more things to do. Such as escape rooms, VR games, bumper cars, and a whole lot more. The downside of this area is that with each game, you need tickets. So I suggest you bring extra cash or a your card if you’re planning on spending some time in there.

Kidz Kingdom:

I didn’t go in here at all because it’s just for kids that are 8 and under and well no need to say more. If there are any of you reading this that are 8 or under, or if there are parents reading this that have kids that age, then here are a few things that are in this area for you to know about: this area is covered so you are able to go any time. There are 13 rides, a playzone and a cafe with food and drinks.

The main area:

This area doesn’t have a specific name, well not that I know of, so I’m just referring to it as the main area, because it’s the area you walk into when you enter and is probably the reason you’re going to Rainbows End. There are also a few food cafe type places in this area. Here’s the link to their website if you’d like to read what they have to say and where you can also find the park map: https://rainbowsend.co.nz/. I categorized the rides into different sections which sums up my experiences with them:

The really scary, stomach churning, throwing up rides:

  • The Stratosfear
  • Fear Fall

(The rides that are the best but if you haven’t ate for a while or just ate you will regret it.)

The not so scary, but yet still thrilling ish rides:

  • The Power Surge
  • Corkscrew Coaster
  • The Invader

(The rides that I don’t have much to say about)

The not at all scary, kinda boring rides:

  • Log Flume
  • Gold Rush

(The rides that you’ll need a jacket on because it might get cold in the tunnels.)

The rides that I wouldn’t necessarily consider as rides but are still fun:

  • Scorpion Karts
  • Family Karts
  • Bumper Boats
  • Motion Master
  • AA Driver’s Town (I was over the age limit, so couldn’t go on it)

(The rides where you just have some competitive fun, besides the motion master)

A few extra tips:

  • If you wear glasses then for most of the rides you won’t be able to wear them.
  • Be prepared with extra cash or your card if you’re planning to buy food and play the games.
  • There is a bag check at the entrance so just be aware that you don’t bring things such as: aerosols, any type of sharp object that might be considered dangerous or as a form of weapon (but I mean why would you need that at an amusement park) etc.

It’s at that point again where I close off and bid you farewell. I hope this was helpful and if you have been to Rainbows End or are planning to go let me know which rides were your favorite/which ones you’re looking forward to.

Bye for now!
